Kim Brown and Elizabeth Allen are both counseling professionals and both are recovering from eating disorders. We are ordinary people; we've learned to embrace ordinariness. It took a while, but we had some fun along the way, mixed, of course, with feelings of fear, anger, inadequacy, joyful moments of discovering ourselves and learning to like and respect ourselves as individuals. We both sincerely wish the same for each and every one of you.

Kim E. Brown, B.S.W., M.S.W., R.S.W.
I consider it an honor to walk with others on their journey to mind, body and spirit wellness. My own path to recovery from an eating disorder began more than 25 years ago and has led me to deep self-discovery and personal growth. My life is immeasurably richer and more fulfilling for having made the commitment to health.
I have been providing social work services since 1982 in a variety of settings, including vocational programs and group homes for people with developmental and/or psychiatric disabilities; a nursing home; a psychiatric hospital for children; local and state-level public assistance offices; and homes and schools providing mental health services to children and their families.
In 2003, I joined the University of Montana Rural Institute on Disabilities providing technical assistance, training and on-site support to schools, agencies, families and students. I lecture and consult nationally and internationally on transition from high school for young adults with disabilities. I also teach both on-campus and online undergraduate-level social work classes for the University of Victoria in British Columbia.

Elizabeth M. Allen, M.A., M.S., L.A.C.
I find it exciting and a privilege to work with adults and adolescents seeking more emotionally contented lives. I am a cognitive behavioral therapist, but also use other treatment modalities such as family therapy, art and talk therapy. My therapeutic philosophy embraces the belief that recovery is a gift, an opportunity to evolve and create a meaningful, contented life.
In addition to providing general counseling services for depression, parenting skills, life transitions, anxiety, and adjustment issues, I treat persons with eating disorders and emotional overeating. (I have treated women and men with eating disorders since 1978.) Approximately 75 percent of my clinic clients have disordered eating, emotional overeating, dual addictions, or dual diagnoses.
I have been in private practice since 1981. Prior to that, I worked in the social work department of a teaching hospital, focusing on adolescents and pediatrics. I have also served as director of social services in a rural hospital, consultant to two inpatient treatment facilities, and clinical director of a maternity home.
