Suggested uses for our site
Prelude to therapy: Entering therapy can be scary; sometimes we don't know where to begin. Using our site to examine some issues, to gain insights, to prioritize your therapeutic goals can help you get started.
Adjunct to therapy: There are 168 hours in a week. Sometimes we think of “recovery” work happening during therapy sessions. It does. Our site provides options and opportunities for additional work and discovery in between therapy sessions. We hope these additional options will empower your recovery. You know yourself better than anyone else ever will. As you complete Healthy Reflections assignments, take them to your sessions to discuss with your therapist.
Support group alternatives: Often support groups are seeking new, innovative ideas for their meetings. This site lends itself to sharing one's discoveries with a group.
Ideas for therapists learning to treat eating disorders: Some therapists find they are short of tools and training to work with disordered eating patients. Good intent and a desire to learn (often from your clients who are willing to teach) is a wonderful beginning. Our site can assist with some ideas and ways to help you work with your client to promote discovery and awareness.
Recovering with a friend: Sometimes neither a support group nor therapy is available. If you have a friend who has an eating disorder the two of you could use this site as a way to facilitate recovery for both of you.
Non-eating disordered recovery: The issues explored on our site are common to nearly all individuals. We present the issues most often seen in the treatment of eating disorders (in our experience.) People without eating disorders may find the exercises, reflections, collages, etc. helpful even if they are not eating disordered.
An alternative to therapy: Both Kim and Elizabeth are advocates of therapy. We understand people may not be able or want to access face-to-face therapy for many reasons, including cost, availability, etc. We do not think our site is a substitute for face-to-face therapy, but we believe it might be helpful to you in a variety of ways if you cannot or are unwilling to participate in therapy.
If you choose to join Healthy Reflections, you will be making a commitment to yourself and your recovery.
